PAST SUCCESS

Good Shepherd Alliance

Homeless Organization

Western D.C. Suburb

A non-profit organization that has been providing emergency housing and near term support for the homeless in the western suburbs of Washington D.C., for over twenty-five years. While the basic needs for emergency food, clothing and shelter are addressed, we also strive to assist women or families in resolving their homeless situation, stabilizing their living situation in the community and empowering them to become self-sufficient. The organization hired Mr. Brothers to help turn their organization around, following some challenging times in which their organization had lost a large government contract.

In his work, Cuidiu not only turned the organization around, but increased the budget by over 300% and created a national model for the delivery of services for homeless families. In addition, the following new efforts were developed:

  • The creation of a volunteer house and program to serve low-income children and families in rural Virginia.
  • The creation of a home for homeless, pregnant women in suburban DC.
  • The creation of a homeless warming center for homeless men, women and families.
  • The creation of homeless drop-in center, including showers, computers, mail service, etc.
  • The creation of an ongoing funding program for organizations that serve low-income families.
  • The creation of a homeless services center that includes a thrift store, counseling rooms, etc.

The organization received local, state and national awards for its work and Mr. Brothers received the Good Neighbor Award from the Fannie Mae Foundation for his work. Click here for the national award and here for Brothers' Good Neighbor Award.
